Energy Star
ENERGY STAR is a nationally recognized, voluntary program designed to identify and promote energy-efficient product, new homes, and buildings to consumers and businesses across the United States. Initiated by the EPA in 1992, ENERGY STAR is now a joint effort of the EPA and the US Department of Energy, with each agency taking responsibility for promoting the ENERGY STAR label in particular product categories. EPA is responsible for determining energy efficiency guidelines for ENERGY STAR qualified homes.
Home builders are eligible for a $2,000 tax credit for a new energy efficient home that achieves 50% energy savings for heating and cooling over the 2004 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and supplements.
Commerical builders are may receive $.03-$1.80 per square foot, depending on the technology and amount of energy reduction based on the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008. more...
